These are used when primary or milk teeth are lost prematurely either due to caries or had to be extracted due to some other reason. These devices prevent the migration of the teeth on either side of the extraction site due to drifting or tilting thereby blocking the space for the eruption of the permanent teeth. If fixed on time it can prevent crowding of permanent teeth and further orthodontic therapy.
